Hi Gabe, I have my blog all set up ready to engage my audience by providing them useful information. I have a feeling I can achieve a lot if I take advantage of LinkedIn’s blog for the same purpose. What do you think?
The key to a good content mix is to use a variety of sources and topics. Mix them up with different media formats to get the most out of them. A good way to accomplish this may be to post links to articles and other content elsewhere in one update. In another update, you can post a link to media coverage about your company. Another post may be a video showcasing hot products you feel will benefit your connections. Again, you may decide to share pictures and images from a recent event staged by your company or other industry-relevant pictures. LinkedIn actually offers a specific plugin just to connect your blog to your profile.
When you create a post on your blog, this plugin will automatically create a post with a link to your blog on your LinkedIn account. You don’t have to remember to create a link on your profile to announce to your followers that you’ve updated your blog. For this reason, LinkedIn is a great tool for promoting your blog.
To make sure you’re consistently engaging your followers, try following this pattern. You can always see what works for you and come up with your own pattern.
Every month find a way to entertain your audience and make them laugh. On a bi-weekly basis, inspire your audience with your posts. Start constructive conversations weekly. This will help keep you relevant in your industry. Twice a week, teach your connections how to do something. They may already know it or not. Then about three times a week, provide relevant, useful information.
I always recommend starting a blog if you plan to engage with your audience. The purpose is to provide useful information that will benefit your readers and keep them hooked for a long time. As much as possible, post links to other content beside that from your blog. This keeps the mix interesting, and you avoid the feeling that you’re looking out only for your own interests. Post links that are relevant to your network and vary the amount of content you post. By following these tips you will engage more of your audience and create a higher quality network.
While it is important to have goals so that we can formulate a plan for starting a home business
-and to stay focused to achieve them, it is equally important to remain flexible. In other words, be willing to change your course if necessary. To be really creative we must be able to see beyond the ‘dotted line’.
Therefore, it may be good to make your goals ‘generic’ – in other words not ‘make X number of dollars per month from XYZ’ but just ‘make X number dollars per month’ – that way if on your way to XYZ you find ABC to be more of a ‘natural’ for you, you won’t miss the opportunity because you are so focused that you have ‘blinders’ on.
You may find after some time in research and development of your home business
-that you really don’t like something that is part of your initial strategy – for example even that you don’t like marketing and sales, period. While any business you start is going to require you to sell it to somebody, you may determine that you just want that to be a means to an end, not the end game.
To explain further, you may love the Internet marketing industry but just not like the amount of work that is necessary to take the ‘massive’ action required to succeed. Not just that, but you don’t like the nature of the work either. Too tedious and time-consuming to do it yourself, and too expensive to use paid services to do it for you right now.
You have already determined that you can and will start a home business and will replace your income
-so that you can quit your gnarly job someday. You have an amount of money in mind that would cover things nicely for now (and of course could be increased as time goes on). So what else might you do that is online but not just marketing/advertising/sales?
Start by making an inventory.
Have one page for your skills and one for your interests. Part of both would include your actual experience whether in a job or hobby. Note what you really enjoyed about both. Do you see anything there that might point you in any direction as far as a service you could perform to earn an income online? Is there something that interests you and you like doing that could maybe use a tune up? For example, if you could take an online course from a community college or other organization to hone your skills in some area.
Take the key points that you find and do some further research as far as how you would go about setting up your home business and how you would promote it (here we go with advertising again) – but remember it’s a means to an end and does not envelope your entire life, it is just a necessary task among the ones that you do enjoy doing.
Once you decide on something you would like to do and can do, then it is time for more of a solid plan that includes a budget for materials and tools that would be necessary, so you will want to do some comparison shopping, etc. The key is to really know all the ins and outs and to facilitate all the various things that would be required to start a home business, or to find anything that could possibly be a ‘deal breaker’ that would prevent you from being able to follow your plan (and then you would just start all over and find something you CAN DO).
If you are setting up an online business, your success will ultimately come down to your ability to get customers. If you have no customers, you’ll have no business. Marketing is the way that you get those customers and without it, your business is going struggle to survive. Marketing does not just just mean doing some advertising when you set up a website business. Advertising is just part of the marketing mix.
Some people think that marketing and advertising is the same thing. As mentioned above, advertising is an element of marketing whether you’re setting up an online business or working on an established business. Advertising is a more passive activity and marketing is more active. When you place an ad it sits there and does its job, but marketing is about getting people to see those ads and everything else you do to promote your business.
1. Search Engine Optimization.
An important online marketing technique when setting up a web business is search engine optimization or SEO. This is the technique that search engines, such as Google, look for keywords within your website to deliver search results. Keywords are the words and phrases that somebody types into a search engine when they are looking for something on the Internet. SEO takes time to set up, but it also needs to be kept up to date on a regular basis. Search engines like fresh and relevant content, and when you’re setting up an online business you’ll have lots of new ideas and content that you can add to your website. Just remember to keep adding new content to your website on a regular basis.
2. Build A Customer List.
One of the best methods of marketing when setting up an online business is building an opt-in mailing list. This is when you get people to give you their email address so that you can market to them whenever you want. In exchange for a potential customer’s email address you should offer them something of value, like special deals, exclusive information or a free report or video of some kind.
3. Marketing With Email.
It takes seven to twelve exposures to your message before people will take action. Effective email marketing is vitally important when setting up an online business because it allows you to build a relationship with the people on your email list. This way they start to recognize the value that you are sending to them and be more willing to buy from you. Remember that every message you send needs to have value. Whether you are providing information or selling something, it has to be of value to the person reading it.
4. Good Website Design.
When you have a well designed website, users do not know if they’re dealing with a global company or a one-person operation. And this is good news when you’re setting up an online business because it means that your website can compete alongside the big organisations. Keep your website navigation simple and remember to clearly outline the benefits of your products and services on your homepage.
When setting up an online businessthere can seem to be a mountain of obstacles to climb

I was once asked the following question by someone on my email list: “If there’s some advice you wish you’d received before starting an online business, what would it be?.” It’s a great question, and one I’ll examine here as I’d imagine my answer would be very useful to all those about to embark on the amazing adventure of beginning, and hopefully growing, a profitable online venture.
Anyone I’ve ever met in business will agree on one thing. It takes a huge amount of work and effort to start and grow a business. And it’s a continual, and often steep, learning curve every step of the way.
The best thing you can do on starting out is to have accurate expectations on what your journey to success will be like.
So don’t buy into the hype that is sometimes still perpetuated about the possibilities for overnight success, about the ‘4 hour work week,’ the ease with which you can grow a successful business, and so on. If you believe that when you first start in business, or that there’s a ‘secret key’ to success, you’re setting yourself up for early disillusionment, demotivation, and failure.
On the other hand, if you’re ready to put the work in, to meet the challenge head on, and throw everything you’ve got at it (and then some!), you’re far more likely to succeed.
For the first few months at least – but more realistically, years – it can involve twelve hour days (often more), seven days a week. It’s all consuming, and can take over every aspect of your life as you know it.
You need the absolute dedication, commitment and drive it takes to succeed. Even when ‘successful,’ there will be bumps in the road, down times, times when it seems nothing’s going your way and you feel close to accepting defeat and giving in.
But it’s at times like these when the wheat’s separated from the chaff, and true success is actually created. You pick yourself up off the floor yet again, figure out what the experience is trying to teach you, and keep on going on. One thing’s guaranteed – if you do stop, you fail. If you’re going to succeed, failure’s not an option.
(Study the back-story of anyone who you consider to be very successful, and you’ll find they’ve all had their moments. For example, the vast majority have been through bankruptcy, and some of those more than once. Just one example would be Donald Trump who has so far filed for bankruptcy four times.)
So in summary, prepare for hard work, give it all you’ve got, and persevere through the hard times. Ultimately, the rewards are there if you’re prepared to rise to the challenge. And the best reward is actually the journey itself.
Don’t Fear Failure – Just Do It Anyway
It might be a good idea to pick up a copy of Susan Jeffers’ best-selling book, ‘Feel The Fear … And Do It Anyway’.
So many people never start their business in the first place simply because they fear it won’t work, they’ll be made to look a fool, they’ll lose everything, and so on. Or they’ll find excuses in the form of other things they need to do first before they can start – but ultimately all rooted in fear of failure.
And so they never become all they can be, never reach their full potential in terms of what they can offer to the world, and live a life of regrets and unfulfilled dreams.
That’s not just a loss to them, but a loss to the rest of society in terms of the unique value they could have offered.
So my best advice would be to acknowledge you’re fearful – that’s perfectly normal – but just to start anyway and see where your journey takes you. Unless you start, you’ve failed before you’ve even begun – and to me that’s a great deal more scary than embarking on the adventure of a lifetime.
Define Your Goals – And Maintain Your Focus
Any journey needs a destination, and starting an online business is no different.
In starting a business, you need to decide what your goals are. And be precise. What exactly are you looking to achieve?
Once they’re defined, you then need to fully commit to achieving them. I don’t want to get too metaphysical, but the universe has an uncanny knack of conspiring to deliver what you’re fully focused on achieving.
Keep focusing on your goals until you achieve them. Find what works for you in order to keep your focus laser-sharp. For example, stick them on the wall or your bathroom mirror, convert them into affirmations to recite day and night, commit to achieving them with friends and family, or any combination.
Finally, understand that while focus on your goals is important, they’re not set in stone. Circumstances change, as do your own needs and desires, and you should be willing to adjust them as you go forward. If your goals no longer make sense for you or stop resonating, adjust them accordingly. They can be as flexible as you need them to be, but the important point is to know where you’re headed and what you’re working towards.
Avoid Information Overload – Find Some Key Mentors
There’s so much information out there, a lot of it contradictory, it can leave you in a form of analysis paralysis and you just don’t know which way to go. That’s true whether you’re just starting an online business, or you’re five years down the road.
The truth is, there is no right way, different tactics and strategies will work for different businesses at different times, and may or may not work for you.
I’d advise to follow a few key mentors, and use their information to guide you, but ultimately you need to find out for yourself whether something works or not and your own experience will increasingly become your guide.
Listen To Your Market – And Adjust Accordingly
As your business develops and you start gathering leads and your first few sales, you’ll start receiving feedback. This may be negative or positive, but the negative messages you receive will actually be most useful for the ongoing success of your online business.
– What are your customers frustrated by? What could you deliver to ensure greater levels of satisfaction, and thereby hopefully increasing levels of referrals to other potential customers for your business?
– What are your leads or prospective customers asking you about? Are you delivering what they are looking for? It could be that your original idea for a business needs completely overhauling in order to actually deliver what the market is looking for.
If so, don’t stubbornly stick to your original idea when a potentially far more profitable one is staring you in the face. Many successful businesses end up delivering products and services radically different from ones the business owner originally envisaged.
The best type of market research isn’t doing endless surveys before you even start a online business. It’s diving straight in, and then listening carefully to your market and adjusting your business accordingly to match.
Ultimately, however, the most important advice would be that you need to decide to succeed and absolutely commit to it. There can be no turning back or retreating to your old, familiar zones of comfort. It’s got to be something you commit to at a deep, internal level.
As Tony Robbins once said, “It’s in your moments of decision that your destiny is shaped.”
Anyone with a business should consider Internet marketing as a way to promote their product or service online.
Some of the basic knowledge needed to get started is listed below. Study these concepts, and you should be able to develop better Internet marketing strategies.
What is a site-wide link? It’s a link that appears on every page of a website. If there’s a page that you want every visitor to be able to quickly and easily find, include a link to it on every page of your site. A menu of links works best for including site-wide links on a website in an orderly way. Be sure the menu link descriptors are short, clear and well organized.
When optimizing your site for search engines, it’s important to remember the HTML code that isn’t shown to humans viewing your site. Meta tags constitute one important example. When search engines try to determine the purpose of your site, the first thing they examine are these tags. Concentrate on meta tags that are most relevant to your site first, then add a few alternative tags to help drive traffic. Choose meta tags that are relevant and will be used by your target customers and potential clients. Take care to not overuse meta tags. Your best bet? If you are not sure if you should use a keyword as a meta tag, then don’t.
“H tags,” used while writing HTML code for a website, are designed to emphasize keywords, titles and other important text elements. The bold tag is used for important text that needs to be recognized. Tags like these are most useful for emphasizing the titles in your site, and also for drawing attention to brief paragraphs of importance. If you make use of bold tags, it’ll be much easier for people to navigate your site and find the content they’d like to read. It will also assist search engine spiders in identifying where the important content is located in a quicker manner. Your titles should include keywords.
In order to promote your product on the Internet, be sure to always come up with new and different methods.
It is common for webmasters to rely mainly on SEO and other marketing methods that are tried and true, though you do not need to do so to the exclusion of Internet marketing. Since many people use the Internet on a daily basis, it is quite common for material to go viral on a daily basis. This is basically word-of-mouth marketing on steroids. Word about the item spreads like wildfire across the Internet. Viral items have a short life span, but you can still benefit from them. If you develop unique and amusing content, you never know what good things could happen. Examine some of the things that have become viral in the past so that you can get an understanding of what has the propensity to become popular.
Twitter has become a big part of the social media landscape.
If you use it effectively, or have a Web design company do it, it could have a big impact on a social media campaign.
In general, the goal is to have as many people as possible follow you on Twitter.
This means more people will see your content whenever you tweet, and the more than see your content, the more it will drive traffic to your website and your store, if you have one. This can be accomplished in numerous ways.
First of all, make it easy for people to identify you by using a company logo as your profile picture. This will help people to associate your Tweets with your brand.
Make sure you include a profile that clearly explains your business and provides a link to your website. This will need to be succinct, since you’re only allowed 160 characters for your profile.
To be most effective, a Twittermarketing plan should be about providing useful or interesting content to followers.
The general consensus is that only about 20 percent of your tweets should be direct advertising for your business. The other 80 percent needs to be the content that brings in the followers.
One way to provide useful content is to retweet others. Focus on content that is in your field of business. This will help you build up a reputation as an expert in your field.
When you retweet, it is helpful to provide your own comments as well, especially if the comment is thoughtful or humorous. Try to avoid comments like, “Wow! You’ve got to see this!” or something similar.
Make sure you use hashtags with keywords by placing “#” in front of the keywords. This will help people discover your tweets when searching for your keywords.
You can also use Twitter to thank people or provide links to helpful or entertaining content in your field. You could even use it for doing contests or ask for input from customers.
One way to seek input would be to ask for suggestions for names for new products or to take a poll on which logo to use for a new company. The more creative and original you can be, the more effective the idea tends to be.
Some businesses could even use Twitter to help customers locate them.
If your business is a food truck or cart and you frequently change locations, you could tweet about your new location so that loyal customers can find you.
When you do advertise for your business, instead of the same old comments, you could announce sales for specific products. Create more followers by making the sale specifically for Twitter or make it a very short sale for one day or even just a few hours.
Instead of having to lure people to be your followers, you can search out customers on Twitter.
You can do this by searching for specific keywords people are searching for, which means they would be interested in your products or services. You could then comment directly to them and provide a link to your site showing them exactly what they are looking for.
If you don’t feel you have the ability or the time to do an effective Twitter campaign, you can always look for a Web design company that offers social media services. This can be worth more than the time and money needed to do it if it is done correctly.

Why Should People Buy From Your Online Business?
by Jon Allo
When you are starting an online business you’ll find that the Internet is a very competitive marketplace. So how can you get your website visitors to buy from you and not one of the big branded business websites? The answer is that people will buy from a website irrespective of the size of the business. It is all connected to the psychology of shopping on the Internet more than it being about the price or the product.
The Internet is both huge and personal at the same time. Your prospects shape the Internet with their interests, searches, desires and purchases. Trends on the Internet are people-driven. When you’re starting an online business, your website may have the potential to be seen all over the world, but it still needs to be tightly focused to appeal to your best prospects.
You have to make potential customers feel at ease when they take a look at your website. Remember what your target audience are looking for and who they are. Make sure that when you’re starting an online business you don’t confuse visitors by trying to sell everything to everybody with a one-size-fits-all website.
Online Business ‘Impulse’ Buys
Excitement generates online purchases, just like a live auction. But you don’t need an online auction to get people to buy.You can do that with one-time offers, limited numbers of products or a special offer deadlines. Think about when you are in the supermarket and the items that you put into your shopping basket when you approach the checkout. Retailers know that this is the last chance to get you to buy more items and these ‘impulse buys’ are purposely put right in front of you and seem to be to be a great great buy.
In your process of starting an online business, put bonus products at the end of your emails, web page articles or blog posts. These are the online version of the impulse buy. You might resist the major product only to be hooked by the extra offers. When it comes down to what makes people buy online, the reasons are the same for buying a $29 information product as for buying a $29,000 painting at a fine art gallery. It’s the ABCDE of buying.
Online Business And The ABCDE of Buying.
When you’re starting an online business you not only need to know ‘who’ your product appeals to but also ‘why’ it appeals to that market. Check the ABCDE of buying and keep that focus with your online business ideas:
Acquire: the drive to have more than your neighbours or colleagues.
Better: to want the newest or improved version of the product.
Convenience: the need to have something that makes your life easier.
Distraction: something to help you forget the mundane aspects of life.
Envy: for others to be jealous because you have the first, best or most exclusive product.

You dont have to do it full time and you can do it without having to register a company in the beginning. Remember to keep all the receips that are related to the business for the future when you may register a company. It is also good to be shure about in what field you will work, it has to be something you really feel good about and have a great interest in. It is very easy to distribute media online if that is what you are about to sell. Books can be downloaded and music also so you dont have to sell physical products.
If you dont have your own product or services
– to market and sell there are great possibilities to work as an affiliate and sell others products. The important question here is in what niche you should work. Getting a product sold to someone that could be without it is not easy but if you find a market where there are a real need for good help your selling will be much easier. My advice is for instance the relationship niche.
There are also a great way to start market your business online for free
-and that is by having a blog about the subject related to your product. If you dont like to write articles there are great services where you can by articles very cheap and have on your blog; remember to add your own statement to the article to make it unique.
