Traffic and Money: Why More Website Traffic Doesn’t Necessarily Mean More Money

Most people believe that traffic and money go together on the Internet; the more traffic you have, the more income you should generate, right? Not necessarily – and the opposite is true as well. You can have a low-traffic website, and make more money than you ever dreamed. It’s really all in how targeted your marketing is, and whether you attract the right visitors, those who are looking for what you have to offer whether it is a service or product.
Why traffic and money don’t always go hand in hand:
You can get thousands of visitors every day, and if your content does not engage your audience or offer them something of value, they will leave. Studies have shown that if your website or blog does not immediately attract the interest of your visitor, he, or she will be gone in about 3 seconds.
Your product/service doesn’t meet the needs of your visitors. Sometimes marketers fail to choose a tightly targeted niche, which results in plenty of visitors, but few sales. For instance, you may sell weight loss products that are designed for women, but you fail to target this fact in your marketing. When men arrive at your website, they are not likely to hang around because the product you offer provides a solution for women.
Your copy is too pushy or sales oriented. Most people do not like to be sold to, so if your website is filled with ads, content that offers little value but is instead pushing readers to buy, it can turn off your visitor – which usually means a quick exit. Most search engines today (particularly Google) are looking for results that really reward visitors, so your copy or content must offer value. This means better search engine rankings, which in turn means more traffic!
Today, consumers who use the Internet to look for solutions to their needs and problems are very savvy; they know that the web is saturated with magic solutions that are too good to be true, and they want a company that is transparent, and truly caters to the needs of the customer, rather than putting money in their own pockets.
Traffic can make you a substantial amount of money, but it’s essential that you go about it the right way! Keep the tips above in mind, and design a website that meets the unique needs of potential customers.
