5 Copywriting Tips For Your Online Marketing Strategy

5 Copywriting Tips For Your Online Marketing Strategy

by Jon Allo

There are a number of straightforward modifications you can make to improve your online advertising strategy and, as a result, increase your sales.

Professional copywriters use a formula to motivate people to buy products and services. You can use this same formula on your website and other online marketing strategies.

While you most likely will not become a professional copywriter instantaneously, the five copywriting tips below can be used in your online advertising strategy to increase the response rates from your emails, adverts, blog posts, articles or other marketing communications.

1. Have An Attention Grabbing Headline.

Your headline needs to grab the attention of your reader quickly so that they want to know more. The headline is (pretty much) the most important element of your online advertising strategy. If your headline is weak or boring, most people will not read any further. A headline has to be exciting, alluring, and interesting.

2. What Is The Problem?

An effective online advertising strategy will tell your target audience that you can solve a problem for them. So, make sure that you present the problem when you are writing copy for your marketing communications. If there is no problem, people don’t need to buy or take any kind of action to solve it. When you present a problem to your audience, it is the same as letting them know they need to take the required action to resolve it. And you can help solve the problem for them

You have to demonstrate that you have an understanding of the problem and can feel their pain. This is one of the key copywriting tips. You need to establish a connection with the reader to build trust and not talk down to them. Then, you can show them that there is a solution to their problem and you present that solution.

3. Layout and Format.

One of the most common mistakes when writing sales copy or any other kind of content is to break the content down into easy to read sections. Words that are written together in long paragraph form without breaks are challenging to read. Your audience are likely to skim rather than read the content if they read it at all.

To get your point over, you should be to communicate your messages in a style that flows easily. Start with clean, sharp headline followed by your storyline and then break it up with sub-headlines.

Bullet points are also helpful to use. They take lengthy paragraphs and put them in an easier to read structure. They quickly draw the focus of the reader, and you can point out important details within separate bullet points.

4. Call To Action.

You may have the best copy ever written in your advertisement, but if you don’t tell people what to do, they won’t do it. Your online advertising strategy needs a call to action that moves people to act. Sometimes using the same old phrases (Buy now! or Order here!) can backfire. People tend to turn a blind eye to words that they have seen a thousand times.

Don’t forget the customer’s problem. This is where understanding the problem can work as a call to action. For instance, if you were selling products that treated acne successfully, rather than having a Buy Now call to action, you could use, “Yes! I want to fight my acne starting today!”

Put yourself into the customer’s shoes when you are creating your call to action. How is the problem negatively affecting their life? What emotions are they dealing with because of it? Discomfort, social stress, anxiety, etc?

5. One Last Point.

The last, but by no means least, of these copywriting tips is to use a PS (and even a PPS) in your copy. Why? Some people skip the sales copy and head straight to the price point and postscripts to see what the page is summed up about. You can also use these to show what the customer might risk if he does not take advantage of your offer.
